Fee explanations
Every fee type that Feefind may flag in a reconciliation, explained in plain language. These descriptions match the Stripe standard US rates that the v1 tool uses as its comparison schedule.
Per-transaction fee
The standard fee for processing a card-present transaction: 2.9% of the transaction amount plus a flat $0.30. This is the baseline against which Feefind compares the actual fee charged. If the processor charged more than this, the difference appears as a fee discrepancy.
Expected fee for Stripe: $50.00 × 2.9% + $0.30 = $1.45 + $0.30 = $1.75
If actual fee charged is $2.50, the discrepancy is $0.75
Interchange fee
The fee the card-issuing bank charges to process the transaction. This varies by card type (credit vs debit, rewards vs basic) and is set by the card networks (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). The merchant's acquirer (Stripe, PayPal, etc.) passes this through. Interchange is not a fixed percentage and differs from the 2.9% rate; when a transaction's actual fee is higher than 2.9% + $0.30, the difference is often explained by the interchange rate for that specific card.
Assessment fee
A network-level fee charged by Visa, Mastercard, or Amex on all transactions. Typically a small percentage of the transaction volume (0.14% for Visa/MC, 0.15% for Amex in the Stripe schedule). This is included in the per-transaction fee the processor charges; if your processor itemises it separately on the payout report, Feefind shows it as a separate line.
Chargeback fee
A fee the processor charges when a cardholder disputes a transaction and the merchant loses (or does not contest) the dispute. The Stripe standard chargeback fee is $15.00, which is itemised separately from the transaction fee. Chargeback amounts appear as negative entries in payout reports and are flagged by Feefind in the chargebacks count.
Feefind counts this as 1 chargeback and adds $15.00 to the chargeback total
Refund fee
When you refund a transaction, most processors do not refund the percentage portion of the fee. Stripe keeps the 2.9% fee on refunded transactions (though the $0.30 flat fee is refunded). This means the processor earned the fee on a transaction that was later reversed. Feefind tracks refund entries separately in the refund count and amount.
The payout report shows a negative $50.00 entry with fee = $0.00 (the fee was already collected)
Currency conversion fee
A fee applied when the transaction currency differs from the merchant's settlement currency. This is typically 1% of the transaction amount plus the wholesale exchange rate. Feefind does not currently compare currency conversion fees against a published schedule (the v1 fee schedule does not include conversion rates), but these fees will appear in the payout report and any discrepancy will be flagged as unexplained.
Multi-currency reconciliation is planned for a future version. For now, conversion fees are reported as part of the unexplained difference.
Instant payout fee
A fee for accelerating a standard payout (the lump sum transfer from processor to bank account). Stripe charges 1% of the payout amount for instant transfers. This fee appears in the payout report separately and is itemised by Feefind if the payout report includes it as a clear line item. If it is embedded in the net deposit rather than itemised, it contributes to the unexplained difference.
